Areal Flood Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 4:21 am EST on March 11, 2010
... Flood Watch in effect from Friday morning through Saturday
evening...
The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has expanded
the
* Flood Watch to include portions of northern Maryland and
northeast West Virginia... including the following areas... in
northern Maryland... Washington. In northeast West
Virginia... Berkeley... Hampshire... Hardy... Jefferson and Morgan.
* From Friday morning through Saturday evening
* warmer temperatures will allow significant melting of the snow
pack that exists over the Allegheny and Potomac Highlands.
This... combined with rain developing tonight... may result in
enough runoff to produce flooding of small streams and creeks
beginning Friday.
* Periods of rain will continue Friday through Saturday. The
rain could be heavy at times Friday night and Saturday and
will increase the flood threat across the area.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings.
Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to
take action should flooding develop.
